A CAMPAIGN FOR NOBILIS: A GAME OF GREATER POWERS |
|
Now the hungry lion roars And the wolf behowls the moon Whilst the heavy plowman snores All with weary task foredone Now the wasted brands do glow Whilst the screech-owl, screeching loud Puts the wretch that lies in woe In remembrance of shroud. Now it is that time of night That the graves, all gaping wide Every one lets forth his sprite In the church-way paths to glide And we fairies, that do run By the triple Hecate's team From the presence of the sun Following darkness like a dream, Now are frolic.

I have been one acquainted with the night I have walked out in rain and back in rain I have outwalked the furthest city light I have looked down the saddest city lane I have passed by the watchman on his beat And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet When far away an interrupted cry Came over houses from another street But not to call me back or say goodbye And further still, at an unearthly height One luminary clock against the sky Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right I have been one acquainted with the night.

THE LADY NOX, POWER OF
NIGHT AND DREAMS ELENA HERNANDEZ
Elena is fiercely loyal to those she loves and the causes she believes in. However, she is a secretive soul. Her shyness has to a certain extent been covered by a brash exterior that makes her appear confident and sometimes even arrogant. Outside of her family she has few friends. She's a loner, but secretly, she craves friends. She rubs people the wrong way, and gets on their bad sides. However, the people who manage to penetrate her defenses quickly learn how kind and caring she can be. They know they can trust her to death and beyond. At the most essential level, Elena is just a shy, little, lonely soul, just pretending to be bad, because she's afraid of being hurt. She is still young, and in many ways, still idealistic. Yet her training and experiences in the military have given her a conflicting sense of realpolitik. Now she's been given the powers of a demigod, and she has to figure out to use them, or whether to use them, or when/where/why/how to use them. She's terrified that her family will be made pawns, and determined to protect them. And the revelations that have come to her with her enNoblement are challenging everything she holds most sacred. Her challenge has begun. Realm's Hearts have a symbol representing them in the heart of the Chancel. For Elena, this symbol is a sculpture of a silvery twelve-pointed star hovering above an upturned crescent moon. This same symbol in black appears on her forehead when unGuised. Estate Text to follow Weaknesses Handicaps to follow The yellow acacia, meaning concealment, with yellow closed petals representing jealousy, treachery, and inconstancy, and whorled leaves representing discovery and the element of water, is crossed at the base of its stem with an almost petal-less flower, representing dreams, with white, closed petals, representing magic, hope, and beauty, and alternating leaves, representing creation and the element of fire. The background is solid black, with a thin white ring around it, representing the enshrouding cloak of darkness that is night.

VISION CARDS Vision Card 1: Horizontal lines of sunlight making a window-shaped golden patch on a light blue painted, bare wall---early morning sun coming through the blinds.
Vision Card 2: A human skull, jawless and clean, shining as though polished, sits in a field of lilies.
Vision Card 3: A leather-bound book lies open so that two pages are viewable. The left shows an illumination of a golden harp in a shaft of sunlight, the right, a broken violin surrounded by darkness.
A six-armed woman with blue skin dances in a graveyard beneath a crescent moon. In each hand she holds a different weapon. Behind her a city is in flames; in front of her a nude man lies chained to a stone altar. His expression is one of ecstasy.
Vision Card 5: A man made entirely of fire swings, with both hands, a great burning hammer down upon an anvil of emerald.
Vision Card 6: A woman clad in sumptuous silks spins wildly in a dance. Her long black hair and her silken ribbons spiral around her.
Vision Card 7: A slender stone tower stands vigil in a clear cold winter evening, a figure in profile standing at a balcony surveying the night. Over the tower hangs a half moon, twisted into the shape of a sinuous white teardrop.
