Scott Spiegel’s Intruder

Starring Renee Estevez, Elizabeth Cox, Ted Raimi, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell cameo

Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! Kitty! No Kitty!

Intruder is one of those highly messy 80’s slasher movies that were recommended to me via NetFlix. I can’t say it was highly stimulating in plot or acting, but if you are looking for lots of blood and gore, this would qualify.

Late one night, in a soon to be shut down grocery store, the clerks and stockers are closing up for the day. One of the clerk’s boyfriends show up, threatening her and begging her to come back to him. The guys in the store gang up and throw him out, but later, after the police come, the people inside the store start dying off in the most gruesome ways. Lots and lots of blood is spilt, and people get massacred with a deli slicer, box crushers, and all sorts of butcher's utensils. The end is especially good, with just the right amount of twist to make it darkly funny.

There are lots of experienced horror players here. Elizabeth Cox from The Wraith and Night of the Creeps plays the main character, Jennifer. She does an okay job as the blonde in trouble. Renee Estevez (daughter of Martin Sheen, sister of Charlie and Emilio) from Sleepaway Camp 2:Unhappy Campers plays her normal sweet girl next door. Ted and Sam Raimi of Evil Dead fame play clerks in the grocery. Scott Spiegel directs and co-wrote the film, and he also helped out with Evil Dead. Lawrence Bender (producer of many Quentin Tarantino movies) has a cameo and also co-wrote this movie. Bruce Campell also has a cameo as a cop at the end of the movie.

It’s a lot of great bits that come together to make a terrible bloody movie. I wouldn’t recommend it for just Regular Joe viewing, but if you really like bloody, gory slasher films, it’s not so bad.
